Nightdreams and Daymares by Native Tongue
Finally! Since Tough Luck, I always wanted Brad to do a deck with a comic style again. I texted him some days ago and told him exactly that. Funny enough, he was already a step ahead. His Patreons already knew. Earlier he posted a teaser on his instagram:
You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash thatβs being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.

I haven't got any Native Tongue decks atm, but I'm a sucker for Norse themed stuff, so I got a full set of their Lore decks. Looks like I'll be signing up for this when it launches

Thanks for sharing! Glad you guys like the concept. So far I've had a blast with this one. A lot more of the deck will be shared over the next couple weeks and shooting for a KS campaign some time in June.

Re: Nightdreams and Daymares by Nativetongue
Got an update on this deck for you guys as the overall concept has changed...
I enlisted help developing a storyline and characters and it's changed things for the better. Now, "Nightdreams & Daymares" will be the name of the series as a whole. Much like how Looney Tunes is a franchise with a full cast of characters and different stories for each episode. In this new setup each deck (campaign) will be an episode. The upcoming campaign will be Episode 1 and will be a story involving the Nightdreams versions of the characters. A later campaign will be Episode 2 and will be a Daymares story, meaning all of the hero and villain characters will swap roles as if in an alternate universe.
This episodic approach means that if done right, and well received, the Nightdreams & Daymares series can go on indefinitely with countless cartoon type storylines involving our characters.
I'm currently in the concept sketch phase on the new cast of characters and will be able to start sharing them soon. Ideally I'm still shooting for a campaign launch sometime in the next 3-4 weeks. Stay tuned!

Re: Nightdreams and Daymares by Nativetongue
I'm very intrigued as to how a story will be told through a deck of cards. Will the art portray characters in 12 (or 52) serial vignettes, each one following the previous, like a comic book? Maybe three characters per deck, each represented by a court, progressing the "action" through the different suits? Maybe there will be a central, overarching event and each character is portrayed acting in/reacting to it? Will you be able to deliver a narrative while keeping the Royals' typical motif?
The quality of the art is such that I already feel pretty invested lol. Super curious to see what's in store.

I guess Eye of the Ocean is a perfect example of what is possible when art and lore are combined. Looking forward to it Brad.

Working on something to accompany the deck. Like a comic type booklet of some sort. Even kicked around the idea of a coloring book lol. We shall see...

Re: Nightdreams and Daymares by Nativetongue
As someone owning Uusi's Eros Tarot and complementing colouring book, I say yes please. But that's just selfish me, I doubt the demand is high. If I recall correctly uusi did only 95 of these and they didn't sell out quick. But they were only in a bundle with the Tarot deck so, I guess that has put loads of folks off, who already owned the Tarot already.

Re: Nightdreams and Daymares by Nativetongue
Thanks for the feedback, bud. Love their decks but canβt say Iβve ever seen the coloring book. Honestly if I go that route it wouldnβt be to make a ton of profit. It would just be a medium to tell the story IF you happen to want to read it. Focus will definitely be on the decks primarilyHarvonsgard wrote: βFri Jun 10, 2022 1:11 pm As someone owning Uusi's Eros Tarot and complementing colouring book, I say yes please. Love what you are creating here Brad.
If I could make a suggestion... the concentric circles I think should make it onto the tuck front and back. At the very least in a blind emboss, almost like the grooves of a record.

Re: Nightdreams and Daymares by Nativetongue
Going to go ahead and make use of that embossing idea for the tuck. As for the rest... I was struggling to get into a rhythm with the new characters/storyline. Went back with the original direction and have been knocking them out rather quickly. Only a few characters left and then I'll be on to making the campaign layout...
